Reflections from a W&D Tax Season 2014 Intern
Following is a reflection by Jake M. – Northern Illinois University, one of our Warady & Davis LLP Class of 2014 Tax Season interns. 2014 marks the 15th year of W&D’s intensive internship program.
Day one I walked in as a wide eyed and innocent twenty-three year old with a dream. On day seventy I walked out as a man. I can’t thank the staff at W&D enough for everything they gave me, from free dinners to valuable experience that I consider to be material. With my favorite shirt freshly ironed by mom, I walked in the office with an all business attitude; I didn’t know what to expect. I quickly learned that the staff at Warady & Davis not only provide top notch service to their clients, but also know how to have a good time.
Tax returns and 1099s aside, my favorite moments this tax season were the Saturday competitions and lunch time. During these precious moments I was able to get to know my peers. I don’t think I will ever forget the friendly banter between my co-workers. While two compared facts and statistics, two other friends would follow up with snappy remarks if they could spare a breath between their complaints of how bad their Camaros drove during the worst winter since ’78.
This internship was a great experience for me. This being my first internship, I was finally able to apply everything I had learned in college and nurture its seed until it bloomed. Northern Illinois University, one of the great pipelines of W&D, has taught me a lot, but it will never replace what I have learned at Warady & Davis, LLP.
W&D was recently named a “Best Place to Work in Illinois 2014.”
